General Info

Stepping into Vegan Soul Bakery at 7130 Minstrel Way #204 in Columbia brings a bright, inspired energy where soul-food classics meet plant-based creativity in a cozy café setting. The moment you walk in, the scent of cinnamon rolls, fresh breads, and brewed coffee blends with warm notes of collard greens and sweet yams offering both comfort and innovation. Regular customers often mention how the bakery manages to serve indulgent baked goods without dairy, eggs, or refined sugar, making it a standout for anyone exploring vegan cuisine. Even though official nutrition breakdowns are limited, industry data shows the plant-based bakery segment grew by around 10% in recent years, indicating that this type of place is responding to real demand.

On the menu you’ll find everything from vegan cinnamon rolls and banana bread to hearty lunch plates with mac and cheese, red beans and rice, or jerk “chicken” dinners all crafted with care. One frequent visitor noted how the sweet potato soufflé tasted deeply familiar yet fresh and lighter than many traditional versions, showing how smart tweaks can preserve flavor while aligning with healthier eating trends. The kitchen process matters: ingredients are often locally sourced when possible, vegan butter and non-dairy milks are selected for richness, and preparation is done in small batches so baked goods stay moist and vibrant. These practices reflect what food-service experts emphasize: freshness, ingredient transparency, and bakery items that don’t compromise on texture or taste.

In terms of expertise, it’s worth noting that the café clearly understands vegan soul-food culture and the expectations of a niche audience. The owner talks openly about baking methods that replace eggs with flax and applesauce or aquafaba, and about seasoning strategies that keep bold flavors without relying on animal fats. For anyone new to vegan cuisine, those insights help build trust and show credible craftsmanship. The bakery functions as both a breakfast spot and a lunch-time layover. However, one limitation to mention is that sometimes popular items sell out earlier in the day, so arriving early is advised.

Comfort food, plant-based innovation, and warm service combine at Vegan Soul Bakery to create a place where you can relax, explore, and indulge without compromise. Whether you're grabbing a spiced coffee with a vegan cinnamon roll or splitting a mac and cheese plate with a friend, the café offers more than just a meal it offers an experience that blends tradition with contemporary dietary awareness.

What customers say?

“ We've been on the search for a good black vegan soul food restaurant after arriving to MD from CA. I've searched 6 months since December. I mean there is PLNT Burger, KAVA, or random dishes at chinese food places. However, those are all fast food and are only good that day. My wife and I have been vegan three years and this is the first time we have ever found vegan collard greens. I've officially allocated money from our grocery budget to be able to buy food from Vegan Soul Bakery. Their food is AMAZING. Last week we got the crab cakes, greens, apple pie, donuts, sangria, and egg rolls. The sangria was good, the donuts were decent, the apple pie was perfect, the crab cakes were amazing, and there greens were to die for. The egg rolls were very different. At first I didn't like them because I was expecting "egg rolls". However, I don't know how I can go back to "egg rolls" now. If you enjoy flaky, crispy, and meaty egg rolls.. these are for you. This week (Today(202100605)) we ordered greens again, garlic biscuits, and seitan curry. All three of these dishes are AMAZING! WARNING: They are understaffed drivers, and all the food is made the same day for delivery. There is a three hour window where the food comes right to your door still hot and ready to eat. That's an amazing feat during Coronavirus. I warn you to give them some extra time. I had a chance to talk to the owner and she sincerely apologized. She apologized for last week and and this week being so close to the end of the delivery window. So my only warning if you can't wait for your food eat a snack and be mindful they are overstaffed. Knowing that, it hasn't stopped me for placing our order for next week. Maybe ill try the lasagna, biscuits, greens, and BANANA PUDDING!!! ”

“ Amazing food and great service! I just can't figure out what their business hours are. I've driven there a couple times based on the hours posted online, only to get there and find them closed. ...Very disappointing, as I thought I found my "go to" vegan spot. ”

“ This bakery is a gem. Somehow they are able to make the most delicious allergy free (free of egg, milk, wheat, nuts...not an easy task) cakes, donuts, special popcorn we've ever had. Loyal customer for a year, so lucky to live in Columbia. ”

“ Especially during these pandemic times, it’s important to remember that behind every small business is a person (or persons) who are doing everything they can to make quality products and satisfy customers. After having the amazing vegan platter and sampling a delicious gluten-free chocolate chip cookie (meant for a party later haha), I officially cannot understand any negative review of Vegan Soul Bakery! IT IS DELICIOUS! I’ve been vegan for a very long time, and traveled all around the world, and never have I EVER tasted more flavorful and delicious vegan food! Just WOW! I don’t even really eat red beans and rice, but I ate this all within minutes! What makes it better is that this business is owned and operated by a beautiful Black woman! Thank you Shavonne for taking my order by phone, and thanks to you and Caroline for preparing a delicious meal, and for greeting me with such kindness when I came for the pickup! The few extra minutes needed to prepare all of my food fresh was worth it! Thank you, thank you! I wish you much success and hope others will be inspired to give you a try with the patience and gratitude that you so lovingly share. Namasté. ”
